Towards a Roadmap for Biodiversity and Ecosystem research in Europe

Workshop, Brussels, 19-20 March 2013

The overall objective of this workshop, organised in cooperation with the LifeWatch project, was to develop synergies between ESFRI research infrastructures (RI), existing research infrastructures implemented as Integrating Activities (IA), Integrated Projects (IP) and Joint Programming Initiatives (JPI) which are relevant to biodiversity and ecosystem research.

The following topics were discussed:

• Synergy between the biodiversity components of different initiatives, also in view of the supporting role of the European research infrastructures in this area.
• A strategy for the development of biodiversity research infrastructures in the next ten years in view of emerging scientific and technical challenges.

Towards an integrated atmospheric observing system in Europe

Workshop, Brussels, 3-4 December 2012

The overall objective of the Workshop was to develop synergies between atmospheric ESFRI research infrastructures (RI), existing research infrastructures involved in Integrating Activities, Integrated Projects, GMES projects and relevant Joint Programming Initiatives (JPI) in the field of Atmospheric Sciences. A better integration of the existing programs and projects in the atmospheric field will help to build the European component of the IGOS (Integrated Global Observing System) in a coordinated and more sustainable way as well as support the implementation of GEOSS.

ESFRI Research Infrastructures and Joint Programming Initiatives in the field of Environmental Sciences

The overall objective of this workshop was to develop synergies between ESFRI research infrastructures (RI) in the field of Environmental Sciences and relevant Joint Programming Initiatives (JPI).

The workshop offered the opportunity to discuss the needs, commonalities and possible interfaces between the RI projects and the Joint Programming Initiatives. It is expected that this better mutual knowledge will help developing links and synergies as well as helping the European Commission services identifying issues that may require generic approaches.

ESFRI research infrastructures and Joint programming initiatives in the field of Life Sciences

Workshop, Brussels, 23 June 2011

The workshop aimed at developing synergies between research infrastructures identified in the ESFRI roadmap and Joint programming initiatives in the field of Biological and medical sciences.

Better mutual knowledge will help to:

• develop specific services by research infrastructures that are already in the process of implementation;
• include specific coordination tasks in the preparatory phase work of infrastructures projects; and
• insert activities or priorities in the Strategic Research Agenda of Joint programming initiatives.

The workshop also aimed at helping the European Commission services to identify issues that would require generic approaches.
