The EU-funded project ITEAM is developing next-generation technology for intelligent vehicles. The aim is to drive down greenhouse gas emissions while making vehicles easier and safer to operate - and boost the competitiveness of European manufacturers.

There is increasing demand for safe, environmentally friendly and user-oriented intelligent technologies in the automotive sector. New high-tech vehicles that respond to drivers needs, road conditions and environmental factors demand interconnected technologies and sensors that can operate seamlessly together.
In response, ITEAM is training the next generation of researchers to develop novel vehicle control technologies for semi-autonomous and fully autonomous vehicles. The network, funded through the EUs Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship programme, offers 15 fellows training in electric and mechanical systems, environmental engineering and applied intelligent control.
During their fellowship programme they will develop innovative hardware and software solutions to improve driving performance and safety. They will explore the use of advanced driver-assistance systems for semi-autonomous and fully-automated vehicles. As part of this work they will pay particular attention to improved controls for chassis and powertrain systems for better brake, steering and stability control. They will also investigate the potential of electric motors as a means of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
All participants will receive training in control engineering, computational intelligence, vehicle dynamics and human-machine interface design. The projects results will be integrated into a set of research databases that will be available online.
