Goals of the programme

• Competition— making European industry more competitive by funding and supporting research, development, demonstration and coordination projects
• Employment— securing jobs and improving job conditions
• Sustainability— helping businesses bring new technologies to market in a faster, safer, socially responsible and sustainable manner
• Innovation — emphasising novel step-change solutions that respond to the major challenges facing European society (e.g. climate change, energy supply, health)
• Industry — transforming European industry from a resource-intensive base to a knowledge-intensive base; helping both new high-tech industries and higher-value knowledge-based traditional industries
• Business — disseminating R&D results to small and large businesses and enabling these businesses to translate the new knowledge into marketable goods and services
