Sustainability

Sustainable production is a fundamental principle underlying the approach to collaborative research in the European Union, and the Commission works to support this policy.

The industrial technologies thematic priority has a key role to play in sustainability through:

- Research into nanotechnologies and nanosciences research to control phenomena at atomic level and enable development of better materials, components and systems;

- Multifunctional materials that add value and quality with new properties and improved performance, especially at the environmental level; and

- New production processes and devices that will lead to more flexible, safe, cleaner and higher quality production systems.
