The Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission is organising a workshop on "Graphene 2020 – opportunities for Europe", with the expected participation of the European Commissioner for Research and Innovation, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, and 3 Nobel Prize laureates: A. Geim (2010), A. Fert (2007) and K. von Klitzing (1985).
In contrast to the numerous graphene meetings already on the agenda, the objectives of this workshop are to look at the future of graphene from the point of view of applications and to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and suggestions on how best to make graphene – already a European scientific success story - also a European innovation success story.
The participants will be major players in the graphene field: representatives of research, national graphene initiatives, funding institutions, national government representatives, and industry. Funding, planning and coordination issues will be addressed, and a panel discussion on "How best to develop applications and create European wealth from graphene" will be held during the workshop.
