For the 2007-2015 period, the Joint Research Centre collected information and data on research, development, and demonstration projects (R,D&D) that are ongoing in Europe and focus on electric vehicles. Horizon 2020 has just opened its first call for expression of interest for individual experts and organisations that wish to propose experts. The purpose is to establish a database of independent experts able to assist the Commission with various tasks in connection with Horizon 2020, such as evaluation of proposals, monitoring of activities and project reviews. On 9 December 2013, the JRC launched FACET, a Flavourings, Additives, and food Contact materials Exposure Tool consisting of a downloadable programme to estimate the EU consumers' exposure to these substances. FACET contains databases of chemical concentrations for flavourings and additives, industry data on retail packaging composition, chemical occurrence data or their prediction, and food consumption diaries, which are then combined into probabilistic dietary exposure models. I think there needs to be a much greater understanding that each country affects another country in a very real way and the empathy that has to come with that. Whether that means a stronger banking union or a stronger political union is yet to be seen but I do think that a greater understanding that each of us affects the other is really key. [read more]
Europe's transport is becoming more competitive and sustainable thanks to rail freight corridors. Since 10 November, six rail freight corridors are now operational. The Rhine–Alp, the Benelux–France, the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, the Orient and the Eastern Corridor pave the way for the implementation of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) programme, aimed at structuring a new backbone for Europe's movements.
