This Annual Report covers developments and activities during 2009. The Annual Report on research and technological development activities of the European Union is prepared pursuant to Article 190 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.

Although formally not within the scope of this Report, some information on research activities carried out under the Euratom Treaty has been included.
