Commission launches EIC Horizon Prize for Early Warning for Epidemics
The European Commission today launched a €5 million prize to find the best solution for setting up an early warning system for epidemics. It is one of six European Innovation Council (EIC) Horizon Prizes, which are part of the European Innovation Council pilot run under Horizon 2020, the EU's Research and Innovation Framework Programme.

New Commission guidance supports EU Member States in transition to Open Science
The European Commission has made a crucial step on the way to an Open Science system in which knowledge circulates freely, as soon as it is available, through digital and collaborative technology. The revised Recommendation on access to and preservation of scientific information, published today as part of the Digital Single Market package, lays out the blueprint for policies on open access to publications and data that the EU Member States can put in place.

EU and Argentina reinforce cooperation in marine research and innovation
The European Commission and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation of Argentina signed today an administrative arrangement encouraging cooperation in marine research and innovation to tackle the challenges linked to the Atlantic Ocean, including ocean observation, food security, polar research and climate variability.

European Commission tackles barriers to innovation: the second Innovation Deal focuses on batteries for electric vehicles
Today, the European Commission with eight partners - innovators and national and regional authorities – took a concrete step to address regulatory barriers to innovation in the area of electric vehicles. They signed an “Innovation Deal” entitled 'From E-Mobility to recycling: the virtuous loop of the electric Vehicle', which will tackle the problem of recycling and re-use of electric vehicle batteries.
