Information Day & Brokerage event on Horizon 2020 – Smart Cities and Communities 2015 Work Programme

12 February 2015, Brussels, Belgium

A new call for proposals for Smart Cities and Communities under Horizon 2020 opened on 10 December 2014 (deadline for submitting proposals is 5 May 2015). It calls for proposals in two topics: SCC-01-2015: Smart Cities and Communities solutions integrating energy, transport and ICT sectors through lighthouse (large scale demonstration – first of the kind) projects and SCC-03-2015: Development of system standards for smart cities and communities solutions.

The information day will take place in the morning and will:

  • Inform participants about the call objectives, requirements and specificities
  • Provide relevant insights and lessons learnt from the 2014 SCC call.

In the afternoon, a brokerage event will provide a chance for people to discuss, exchange ideas, network and meet potential partners to create new or strengthen existing consortia. Participation in the event is free of charge but registration is compulsory and applications will be dealt with on a “first come, first served” basis.

Please note that registration is already open and will remain open until 10 January 2015.

SAVE THE DATE! Latvian Presidency Conference: First Innovative Enterprise Week

15-17 June 2015, Riga, Latvia

First Innovative Enterprise week “Access to Finance for Research, Innovation and SMEs 2015” is a 3-day international conference on:

  • the political answer to the macroeconomic situation
  • ways to boost growth, jobs and competitiveness through innovation, including the investment Plan for the EU
  • how the financial instruments, facilities and accompanying measures launched under Horizon 2020 can enhance access to finance for research, innovation and SMEs
  • interactions between these financial instruments, COSME's and European Structural & Investment Funds (ESIF), as well as with instruments at national and local levels.

The conference will bring together high-level policy-makers, financial intermediaries and representatives of the research, innovation and business communities.

Registration will open on 1 March 2015.

BioFIT (Fostering Innovation and Transfer)

2-3 December 2014, Lille, France

BioFIT aims at stimulating and facilitating technology transfer and collaborative projects between academic institutions, pharma/biotech industry, together with other practitioners in the Life Sciences field.

Innovation in waste management: Linking the ‘circular economy’ and the ‘waste hierarchy'

26 November 2014, Espoo, Finland

The workshop addresses the macro environmental effects of the diffusion of non-landfill waste management technologies for MSW by adopting an LCA approach. During the session, the participants will explore possible changing pressures from shifting to non-landfill MSW management technologies.

The presentations will explore observed ex post trends (1996-2011) and on ex ante scenarios (2012-2030 and beyond). The experts and guests are invited to discuss policy and economic implications of (saved) external costs from shifting to non-landfill MSW management technologies.

Science, Innovation and Society

19-21 November 2014, Rome

The international conference on “Science, Innovation and Society”, organised by the Italian National Research Council (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, CNR) is held from 19 to 21 November at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, Rome.

The event gathers the stakeholders in the scientific sector, who will share views on different subjects, such as gender equality, ethics and the concept of “open science” in order to promote responsible research and innovation in Europe.

On the evening of the 19th of November, Art&Innovation Exhibition opens at MAXXI Museum in Rome, with the participation of the Italian Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities, Dario Franceschini and the Italian Minister of Education, Universities and Research, Stefania Giannini.
