Urban Megatrends and Future Challenges for European Urban Areas

27 March 2014, The Committee of the Regions - Rue Belliard 101, Brussels

The aim of the event is to bring together representatives from the JPI Urban Europe and the European Institutions as well as from other urban networks, along with high-profile scientific and policy experts to discuss issues relating to megatrends and future urban challenges.

The JPI Urban Europe has recently finalised two studies on global megatrends and their long term impacts on European cities that will be presented and discussed at the seminar. The scientific background paper gives and in-depth analysis of urban challenges. The Urban Megatrends policy paper indicates that global megatrends, including climate change and demographic and economic development, will have a regionally differentiated impact on European urban regions and implications for policy-making at all levels.

BNCI Horizon 2020 Retreat

24-26 March 2014, Hallstatt, Austria

BNCI Horizon 2020 is an EU FP7 support and coordination action consisting of twelve partner institutions from the field of brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) and brain/neural computer interaction (BNCI). The main aim of this project is to develop a roadmap for the BCI field with a special focus on industrial BCI applications and end users. The outcome of this project will influence the European Commission in their funding decisions for their new framework program Horizon 2020. At the BNCI Horizon 2020 Retreat, participants will discuss the future of BCIs. The BNCI Horizon 2020 consortium will present ideas and concepts for the roadmap, and participants will have the opportunity to provide input, feedback, and comments through keynote talks, targeted discussions, and workshops.

AALIANCE2 Final Conference

26 March 2014, Brussels

The AALIANCE2 Final Conference aims to present the results achieved by the project and to disclose the future framework of the AALIANCE Network. Particularly, the new AALIANCE AAL Roadmap and Strategic Research Agenda and investigations on current standards related to AAL technologies will be presented. Additionally a round table will be organized for discussion and exchange of experiences from different stakeholders’ perspective.

The deadline for registration is 13 March.

First conference The Ocean of Tomorrow projects: what results so far?

26 March 2014, Brussels

On 26th March 2014, the Directorate General for Research and Innovation is organising the conference The Ocean of Tomorrow projects: what results so far?

This first conference will present early results of four ambitious and multi-disciplinary projects with a focus on understanding, mitigating and adapting to changes in the marine environment. Two projects dealing with the sustainable exploitation of marine biodiversity will also be showcased.

The event will include a panel discussion with high-level experts to take stock and to put forward their views concerning how marine and maritime research could be developed under Horizon 2020.

Infravation 2014 Call joint information and brokerage day

20 March 2014, Brussels

The ERA-NET Plus (EN Plus) Infravation is a transnational collaboration of 11 countries on road infrastructure innovation. The Infravation 2014 Call will be launched on 3rd March 2014, pooling some 9 million EURO, including a one-third top-up of the European Commission (EC). For the first time, the USA (Federal Highway Administration) will contribute funding to an EN Plus Call.

Register by 12th March 2014 for the Infravation 2014 Call joint information and brokerage day being held on 20th March 2014. Participation in the event is free of charge. For logistical reasons, all participants are required to register for the event using the online registration system.

 In addition, Infravation will also have a stand at the 2014 edition of the Transport Research Arena conference (TRA2014) in Paris on 14-17th April 2014 as part of the CEDR village. Come and visit us there!
