This year’s European Maritime Day will focus on “Innovation driving Blue Growth” and on this occasion the EU Commission Directorate General for Research and Innovation is organising a thematic session on 20 May in Bremen, Germany, titled “Ocean technologies: an investment for sustainability”.
The session will be a discussion forum on possible ways to enhance European marine and maritime leadership through innovation and research.
It will present concrete examples that can contribute to unlock the innovation potential of seas and oceans in a sustainable way. The event will also be the place to identify innovation challenges and to demonstrate the ocean technologies' innovation and growth potential for multiple "Blue Growth" sectors and their benefit for society.

Several EU projects such as ECO2, MICROB3, BONUS or Sea For Society will take part in the exhibition while Commissioner Damanaki will present the awards to the winner of each of the 14 countries participating in the MARLISCO 's project video competition.

Since 2008, the European Maritime Day is celebrated across Europe on 20 May to raise awareness on the maritime sectors and support an integrated approach to maritime affairs.
It is the European flagship event on the Integrated Maritime Policy with participation of high-level speakers from all over Europe.

The conference will feature several roundtable discussions, book presentations, and student research project presentations.

The Third International Climate Change Adaptation Conference 2014 (Adaptation Futures 2014) will be the link between the research community and the users of climate change adaptation information at regional and global scale.
The conference will focus on climate impacts and adaptation options. It will bring together scientists and decision makers, and practitioners from developed and developing countries to share research approaches, methods and results. It will explore the way forward in a world where impacts are increasingly observable and adaptation actions are increasingly required.
The conference will be held at the facilities of the new Centro de Eventos do Ceará, in the City of Fortaleza, State of Ceará, Brazil.

The FP7 project SAFUEL (The Safer Fuel System) is organising a public forum to present and discuss challenges and innovative solutions for future aircraft fuel systems.
The event, entitled “Aircraft Fuel Systems: Future challenges and innovative solutions”, is hosted by SAFUEL partner Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in Lisbon, Portugal on the 15th May 2014. Venue is the IST congress centre in central Lisbon. Speakers from both industry and academics will present the latest progress of the research performed by the SAFUEL partners, in the domains of optical gauging, oxygen sensing, water detection, icing and innovations for future fuel tank technologies.
