With sessions on Automotives, Aero Structures and Wind Energy / Offshore Applications and Manufacturing Technologies, ITHEC 2012 promoted structural thermoplastic lightweight structures enabling an economic high-volume production for a wide range of applications. In addition to these topics, the upcoming event ITHEC 2014 will have a special focus on hybrid materials and technologies.

MESSE BREMEN and the Faserinstitut Bremen e.V., (FIBRE) successfully launched ITHEC in October 2012. 280 highly satisfied participants (70% from industry) and 27 exhibitors, including the technological leaders, gathered in Bremen for this kick-off event on a promising class of composites.

Keystone Symposia: Cell Death Signaling in Cancer and the Immune System

28 October - 1 November 2014, Sao Paulo, Brazil

For a link to this event only, use the event permalink

Cellular decisions to live or die are fundamental to development and adult homeostasis, playing roles in a wide variety of physiological and pathological processes. These include cancer, degenerative disease, innate and adaptive immunity, ischemia-reperfusion injury, and infectious disease. As the study of cell death moves beyond the central mechanisms of apoptosis to wider issues of regulation and other forms of cell death, this vibrant area of research widens its influence and importance for human health and disease.

We strongly encourage students and postdoctoral fellows submit an abstract and apply for Scholarship and Underrepresented Trainee Scholarship opportunities. Please visit our website for eligibility and application criteria. Submitting an abstract enables maximum participation in the meeting through presentation in a poster session. Abstracts submitted by the deadline also afford consideration for short talk presentation in either a plenary session or a workshop.

Chemical Building Blocks – building sustainable foundations for biobased chemicals

1 October 2014, Reims, France

For a link to this event only, use the event permalink

This workshop aims to identify workable solutions to the major hurdles and concerns hampering the development of the biobased chemicals sector in the EU. We are especially interested in views on 3HPA, succinic acid, PDO, furfural, and isoprene as we consider these chemical building blocks to have the highest potential for deployment in the EU.Input from market, policy and technological experts within the area of chemical building blocks is crucial to allow us to develop recommendations which best answer the needs of industry.

Chemical building blocks provide routes to a wide range of different products and chemicals and, in turn, an astonishing range of different downstream uses. Industrial biotechnology offers the potential for developing biobased chemical building blocks that can have new or improved functionalities compared to those which can be produced from fossil fuels or traditional chemical routes. Despite this potential, significant hurdles to the production of biobased chemical building blocks using IB processes exist in the EU.
