Keystone Symposia: Cell Death Signaling in Cancer and the Immune System
28 October - 1 November 2014, Sao Paulo, Brazil
Cellular decisions to live or die are fundamental to development and adult homeostasis, playing roles in a wide variety of physiological and pathological processes. These include cancer, degenerative disease, innate and adaptive immunity, ischemia-reperfusion injury, and infectious disease. As the study of cell death moves beyond the central mechanisms of apoptosis to wider issues of regulation and other forms of cell death, this vibrant area of research widens its influence and importance for human health and disease.
We strongly encourage students and postdoctoral fellows submit an abstract and apply for Scholarship and Underrepresented Trainee Scholarship opportunities. Please visit our website for eligibility and application criteria. Submitting an abstract enables maximum participation in the meeting through presentation in a poster session. The climate change challenge: the outcome of the IPCC 5th assessment report
4 November 2014, Brussels
How will EU society, and indeed individual EU citizens, react, adapt and generally cope with the impacts of the coming changes to the world’s climate? What can its elected representatives and policy-makers do on the world stage?
Answers to such questions will be outlined in a special event at the European Parliament (EP) as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) presents the latest findings from its 5th Assessment Report (AR5). The IPCC’s Chairman, Dr Rajendra Pachauri, will present the key findings from the IPCC’s report, hot off the press, and take part in a Q&A session at the European Parliament to debate the report’s contents.
The event, organised by the European Commission in partnership with the EP’s own Scientific Foresight Unit, gives the first chance for EU citizens, legislators and policy-makers to discuss the contents of the AR5 at the heart of European government.
It is not possible to attend the event but you can follow it online: http://www.europarl.europa.eu/ep-live/en/committees/video?event=20141104-1700-COMMITTEE-STOA and send your questions via Twitter using these hashtags: #TalkClimate #ipccEP
