SESAR Innovation Days
25-27 November 2014, Madrid, Spain
The SESAR Innovation Days is the main forum for the dissemination of ATM (Air Traffic Management) exploratory research results. It focuses explicitly on long-term and innovative research ideas.
Long-term and innovative research is pivotal to the future evolution of ATM. It addresses novel and/or unconventional ideas, concepts and technologies that contribute to the development of a safe, competitive and sustainable future for the European ATM System.
International Conference on Traffic and Transport Engineering (ICTTE 2014)
27-28 November 2014, Belgrade
ICTTE Belgrade 2014 will be held on 27-28th November 2014 in Belgrade (Serbia) and will be co-hosted by the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering.
ICTTE Belgrade 2014 will gather researchers, scientists and engineers whose fields of interest are traffic and transport engineering, and should provide them a good platform for discussion, interactions and exchange of information.
Bio-based Plastics – How do we Grow the EU Industry?
1 December 2014, Brussels
This workshop aims to identify workable solutions to the major hurdles hampering the development of the bio-based plastics sector in the EU. We are especially interested in PLA and PHA as we consider these bio-based plastics as having the highest potential for deployment in the EU. Input from market, policy and technological experts within the area of bioplastics is crucial to allow us to develop recommendations which best answer the needs of industry.
Today, bio-based plastics have an established market, demonstrating rapid growth both in Europe and globally. While Europe is currently the largest producer and user of bio-based plastics, this situation is expected to change in the future with production increasingly being based in countries where feedstocks are cheaper and where production costs are lower. Even with increasing fossil fuel prices expected to make bio-based plastics more competitive compared to fossil-derived plastics, ensuring the cost-competitiveness of EU bio-based plastics production compared to other regions globally is expected to become an increasingly difficult challenge.
Renaturing Cities: Systemic Urban Governance for Social Cohesion
1-2 December 2014, Milan, Italy
The EU Conference on "Renaturing Cities: Systemic Urban Governance for Social Cohesion", under the auspices of the Italian Presidency of the Council of the EU aims to to inspire Research and Innovation policies on sustainable urban development by bringing together scientists, policy makers, the business sector and representatives of the civil society.
The conference will focus on multilevel governance for urban and peri-urban areas and highlight the relation between supranational, national and sub-national scales, as well as the interplay of actors within these scales. Therefore, new instruments of urban governance based on a strong public-private partnership will be explored in order to facilitate the interplay between policy-making, market-driven actions and grassroots initiatives.

The biannual EuCheMS Chemistry Congress is a major scientific event where the latest progress in all areas of chemistry will be presented by eminent speakers from all over the world. Two of the highlights of this 5th edition of the ECC will be the European Commission Joint Research Centre session as well as a session with Prof. Bourguignon, President of the European Research Council.
Use of IB in Biosurfactants
3 September 2014, Berlin, Germany
The BIO-TIC project has organised this workshop with the aim to identify technological, non-technological and market hurdles for the uptake of industrial biotechnology in bio-surfactants and develop recommendations and solutions to overcome the identified hurdles. Input from market, policy and technological experts is crucial to help us develop recommendations which best answer the needs of industry and further build on the roadmaps being developed as part of this project.
Biobased surfactants can be produced either from oils and fats via oleochemical production or from sugars, e.g. molasses by fermentation. Biobased surfactants can be used for a wide range of applications, the largest of which are currently detergents, followed by personal care products and industrial and institutional cleaners. The BIO-TIC project estimates that in 2030 the biobased surfactants market in Europe could have a market value of between 0.8 MEUR and 1.8 BEUR. The market value could be greater than this if the various hurdles to biosurfactants are addressed.
Open Architecture Control Systems Summer School
29 August - 2 September 2014, Międzyzdroje (Poland)
The iLOAD event will take place in Międzyzdroje, Poland, We would like to host all young researchers who are interested in control system issues and want to extend and share their knowledge and ideas. During our event there will be the possibility to become familiar with the latest trends in programming of National Instruments and ifm electronic equipment. An additional attraction will be a trip to Cargotec factory and visiting laboratories of the West Pomeranian University of Technology.
