Sustainable Places 2014 builds on the successful “ICT for Sustainable Places” conference held in Nice in September 2013. It will focus on energy efficiency at building, district and city levels. The event will be composed of: - the 2nd EC DG CONNECT workshop on eeBuilding Key Performance Indicators - the EuropIA.14 colloquia on Architecture and City Design - presentations & workshops on innovative business models, technologies, modeling and monitoring for sustainable buildings, districts and cities.

Sustainable Places 2014 will enable to access up-to-date information, assess outcomes from the most advanced research & innovation projects, discuss possible synergies, and envision possible standards evolution. It will be a key opportunity for delegates to meet and network with high quality keynote speakers (from CSTB, CEA, Arup, Intel and CalCon), as well as with architects, building designers, energy consultants, and urban planners.

AircraftFire Project Colloquium on the flammability threat of composites on aeronautical fire safety

8-10 July 2014, Brussels

For a link to this event only, use the event permalink

A two and half days Colloquium focused on: - Fundamentals and state of the art in fire safety in aeronautics - New issues for fire safety in aeronautics - AircraftFire and beyond: Discussion panel on follow-up activities for fire safety in aviation.

This colloquium brings together interested people from science (students and researchers from academia and research centres), from industry (engineers, aircraftdesigners, parts manufacturers,...) and professionals from or related to public services, who are working in the field of fire safety in aeronautics.

The Context: For 20 years, the fire threat in aeronautics has been drastically reduced. But in new generation aircrafts the massive use of flammable composites, substituting metallic structural elements, changes the understanding of fire risk, and influences the fire safety approach for passenger and crew safety and survivability during fire incidents. As recent contribution the FP7 project AircraftFire (AcF) is aimed at the characterisation of the flammability and burning properties of aeronautical composites for fuselage, wings, structures, fuel tanks, cabin materials and their influences on the mechanical behaviour and at the investigation of the effects on inflight fire growth in the cabin and on passenger evacuation during post-crash fire.

Final conference of the EU research project 'Climate for Culture': Public presentation of the results

9-10 July 2014, Munich, Germany

For a link to this event only, use the event permalink

The EU project 'Climate for Culture' will come to an end this year after five years of successful research cooperation. We would therefore like to invite you to the presentation of the final results of our research work at Munich's beautiful Munich Residenz, the former royal palace of the Bavarian monarchs.

A multidisciplinary team of 27 partners from 14 countries has investigated the impact of climate change on historic buildings and their collections in Europe and the Mediterranean region. The main innovation has been to couple for the first time high resolution climate modeling with whole building simulation tools in order to predict better the influence of the changing outdoor climate on the indoor and microclimate in historic buildings until 2100 and to assess the damage potential in various climate zones (www.climateforculture.eu).

Programme: During the two days of the conference, the partners will present the tools and methodologies developed within the project. These are intended to support decision makers and heritage owners in managing historic buildings in a sustainable way. The event will open with a keynote lecture by the internationally renowned climatologist, Prof. Dr. Guy Brasseur, Director of the German Climate Service Center in Hamburg, Germany.

Robust Manufacturing Conference (RoMaC 2014)

7-9 July 2014, Bremen, Germany

For a link to this event only, use the event permalink

Understanding the cause and effects of multi-scale changes in global production networks is of major interest. New methodological approaches from different science disciplines are promising to contribute to a new-level comprehension of network processes. Scientists and researchers from all disciplines with an interest in Production Planning and Control are welcome to participate and contribute novel ideas focusing on robust manufacturing.
