FP7 Information Day on the call: FP7-CDRP-2013-INCUBATORS

2 July 2012, Brussels

Join us at this event, which will bring together leaders in social innovation and business incubation, and other organisations including technology parks, universities and other science and research bodies.

Incubators for social innovation could accelerate the growth of small innovative businesses and enable experiments that are small and locally successful to be applied in other places across Europe, spreading good ideas and innovations. The Commission (Research and Innovation DG) will provide support for up to two transnational networks of incubators to facilitate the scaling up of social innovations from their local communities to higher geographical levels across Europe.

Please register via email: by 4 June 2012 by filling in and attaching the registration form below.

Due to space restrictions we can only accept a limited number of participants. Please refer to the email confirmation of your registration to determine whether or not you are registered for the event.

Launch event of the “Women in Research and Innovation” communication campaign

21 June 2012, Brussels

Women remain largely under-represented in the science, technology and research fields in Europe, which means a huge waste of talent.  On 21 June, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, will launch a campaign which aims at encouraging girls and young women to pursue scientific studies and research careers. The first part of the campaign will address teenage girls in secondary education with the slogan, "Science: it's a girl thing!"

The launch event will be held in the European Parliament in Brussels and it will be attended by MEPs, interested stakeholders, pupils and teachers from the 6 countries where the campaign starts (Austria; Belgium; Germany; Italy; Netherlands and Poland).

Fun activities on the theme of science will also take place on the Esplanade of the European Parliament from 12:00 to 18:00.

All kids and teenagers are most welcome to attend. Activities for young people include:

  • several workshops that will stimulate their appetite for science (build your own electronic dice, construct a machine with Lego to save energy, discover the hidden properties of elements surrounding you, etc.)
  • a very special workshop exploring the connection between science and music with famous Belgian female DJ & producer, DJ Sand (Sandrine Droubaix);
  • shooting of the video clip of the ‘Chain Reaction Dance’ – a flashmob with original music and choreography, inspired by chemical reactions and performed by the gathered crowd of young people.

NB: registration has closed for the event in the European Parliament but you can find the programme via the registration link on the web site and will be able to follow the event via the web on the day.
