RegioStars 2013 - Award Ceremony

The objective of the RegioStars Awards is to identify good practices in regional development and to highlight original and innovative projects which could be attractive and inspiring to other regions. The RegioStars awards form part of the Commission's Regions for Economic Change initiative, which aims to highlight good practice in urban and regional development.

The Award Ceremony will take place the 31 January 2013 at the Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels.

NET4SOCIETY Conference "Learning by doing - making interdisciplinarity work"

The conference "Learning by doing - making interdisciplinarity work" on the role of interdisciplinarity in European research and perspectives from the Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities will take place on 15 January 2013 in Brussels. The conference is organised by the international network of National Contact Points for Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities (SSH) NET4SOCIETY in partnership with the European Alliance for the Social Sciences and Humanities (EASSH).

The conference sessions will convene at the beautiful premises of the Museum of Natural Sciences (Rue Vautier 29) in Brussels. The event will allow researchers from different disciplines and SSH stakeholders to interact in order to share experiences and good practices and finally draw lessons from interdisciplinary research projects in different FP7 themes. The conference will seek to overcome the challenges in properly integrating contributions from the Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities (SSH) into different research fields.

The conference will

  • Hear experiences on interdisciplinary integration from current FP7 projects;
  • Draw lessons for future interdisciplinary research

Progress during the conference will be structured through a series of thematic panels with presentations from project coordinators followed by a panel discussion and involvement of the audience. The main aim of the conference is to identify successful paths for making multi- and interdisciplinarity effective. The conference addresses research managers, funding organisations and researchers.

InfoDay on FP7 Environment Research in the specific field of water innovation demonstration projects

The European Commission (Research & Innovation DG - Directorate Environment) is organising an InfoDay on FP7 Environment Research in the specific field of "water innovation demonstration projects" on 15 January 2013 in Brussels. The event will focus on the Call FP7-ENV-2013-WATER-INNO-DEMO of the 2013 Work Programme. It aims to provide guidance on the preparation of proposals, to update proposers on recent progress by the European Innovation Partnership (EIP) on Water and to allow for brokerage amongst the participants.

Registration for this event is now closed;  the maximum registration capacity has been reached after only one month of running the registration facility.

People who have not been able to register may wish to follow this event remotely in real time from 9:00 am on 15 January through webstreaming. Instructions for the connection will be made available on this web site on 15/01/2013 before 9:00 am.

In addition, people who could not register and would be interested in submitting a three-slide presentation on their organisation and/or proposal idea may submit it before 10 January by email to Authors are invited to follow the structure given in the supporting documents on CIRCABC (see below). During the event, participants will be informed about the possibility to access these additional presentations through the event’s CIRCABC till closure of the Call.

The European Commission Representation and the European Parliament Office in Ireland will host a stand at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition which takes place in the RDS in Dublin from Thursday 10 to Saturday 12 January 2013
Anyone thinking about a career or studies in the fields of science or research will have the opportunity to speak to Irish scientists, many of whom are working on EU funded research projects, who will be on hand to answer questions from 11am to 1pm every day and from 3pm to 5pm on Thursday and Friday.

And while you are there, why not test your fishing skills with our interactive fishing game "eco Ocean" and learn about sustainable fishing and how to avoid the depletion of our fish stocks.  Free resources on the themes of biodiversity and maritime affairs and on the European Union are available.

Staff from the European Commission Representation in Ireland, the Joint Research Centre (the European Commission's in-house science service) and the European Parliament Information Office in Ireland will all be on hand to answer your questions.
