12 May 2016 - 16 May 2017, Salzburg, Austria
One of the great successes of the ECTS scientific programme over time has been due to the principle of bridging the gaps between translational research and clinical application.
The Scientific Programme Committee has continued to develop the programme based on this successful format and has created a stimulating and varied agenda. With more than 500 abstracts regularly submitted over recent years ECTS congresses are renowned for their high scientific quality and we expect the Salzburg meeting to be no exception.
We have also noticed an increase in submissions from further afield which shows us that the ECTS audience is definitely spreading well beyond Europe! There will be plenty of opportunities for you to showcase and discuss your work, with a significant proportion of time set aside for oral and poster presentations, which will include poster tours and e-poster options.

We are pleased to announce the final conference of the European Commission‐funded ADVANCE project.
The conference will bring together stakeholders, climate policy experts and scientists to discuss “Deep decarbonization for staying well below 2°C”.
The Paris Agreement reinforced the objective of keeping global temperature rise well below 2 degrees Celsius, and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
Such low stabilization requires swift action and an almost full-scale decarbonization of energy systems worldwide. Integrated Assessment Models (IAM) help quantifying the requirements for climate stabilization and the implications of international climate agreements in general and the Paris Agreement specifically, including costs, economic impacts, as well as feasibility of the rapid transformative changes they involve at the global and regional scales.
The ADVANCE project performed model developments that allow a renewed and improved assessment of climate change mitigation strategies.
The project also performed a detailed assessment of the INDCs, and explored pathways towards 2°C and 1.5°C stabilization.
The conference will present the results of the project and discuss implications for climate and energy policies, as well as priorities for future research.

S2M 2016 is a three days conference conjointly organised by the Faculty of Architecture, University of Lisbon, and The University of Manchester, with a wide variety of plenary and parallel sessions and inspiring keynote speakers, aiming to foster transdisciplinary research and innovation in the fields of manufacturing, design, architecture and construction, with a focus on a new culture of eco-design and innovation, towards smarter and sustainable manufacturing systems.
The European Commission recently adopted an ambitious strategy called Europe 2020 to spur a smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, fostering knowledge, innovation, education and a digital society.
The innovation challenge will drive a global systemic transformation, bringing forward new business opportunities and fostering prosperity in a world of finite resources. A new culture of greater resource efficiency and disruptive innovation will require new technologies, processes and materials.
Moving towards a circular economy is a framework for future transformation, an opportunity to rethink and redesign the future to address today´s fundamental challenges, from how we use natural resources, to the way we design and manufacture products, through recycling and re-use towards a zero-economy waste and society.
S2M 2016 aims at developing a fruitful scientific exchange between academic and professionals with distinct backgrounds and skills, bringing together research, industry and economy professionals to explore and develop new design ideas for a more sustainable future, to identify novel resource efficient solutions crucial to decrease resource dependence and increase system resilience.
