Publication of ESOF2016 calls for Careers and Science to Business Programmes

1 June - 31 July 2015, Manchester, UK

Over the six days of 22-27 July 2016, Manchester will host the Euroscience Open Forum 2016 " Science as Revolution". ESOF is the biggest pan-European science platform where researchers, journalists, policy makers, students and organisations can meet and debate European research and global challenges.

The ESOF2016 calls for Careers and Science to Business are now open. The deadline for session proposals is 31st July 2015 at 23:00 pm CET. 


GEO 2015 Short Video Competition

2 July - 30 September 2015, Mexico City, Mexico

The Group on Earth Observations is pleased to announce the kick-off of the GEO 2015 Short Video Competition for the GEO-XII Plenary and Ministerial Summit!

The competition seeks short (up to 3 minutes) videos highlighting how GEO, and Earth observations in general, are helping to address global and regional environmental and societal challenges.

Winning videos will be shown during the GEO Ministerial Summit in Mexico City on 13 November 2015.

 The deadline for submissions is 30 September 2015.

Our Common Future under Climate Change

6-10 July 2015, Paris, France

This four-day conference will be the largest forum for the scientific community to come together ahead of the 21st UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP21), which will be hosted by France in December 2015 (“Paris Climat 2015”). Building on the results of IPCC 5th Assessment Report (AR5), the Conference will address key issues concerning climate change in the broader context of global change. It will offer an opportunity to discuss solutions for both mitigation and adaptation issues. The Conference will also welcome Side Events organized by different stakeholders.

The conference is organized under the umbrella of ICSU, Future Earth, UNESCO and major French research institutions, with the support of the French Government.

During the event, the European Commission will present 2 parallel sessions:

  • Post-2030 decarbonisation pathways in Europe
  • European Collaborative Research and Innovation for Climate Action

19th International Forum on Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications (AMAA 2015) - Smart Systems for Green and Automated Driving

7-8 July 2015, Berlin

Leading engineers and scholars from all around the world are cordially invited to participate in the dialogue and submit proposals for papers addres­sing ongoing research and novel developments in this field.

Discussions at the conference will focus particularly on the application areas men­tioned below. A special attention will be given to topics covered in public funding programmes like the European Green Vehicles Initiative PPP of Horizon 2020.

The AMAA 2015 will be opened with speeches by Willy Van Puymbroeck, Head of Unit Components, DG CNECT, European Commission and Stefan Mengel, Head of Unit Electronic Systems and Electric Mobility, Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Germany).

Further keynote speakers include Remi Bastien (Renault), Patrice Reilhac (Valeo) and Fabio Marchio (ST Microelectronics) among others.

A panel on the recently published EPoSS Roadmap on Automated Driving (http://www.smart-systems-integration.org/public/news-events/news/eposs-roadmap-smart-systems-for-automated-driving-now-published ) will discuss evolutionary and revolutionary development paths.

Furthermore, the conference will look beyond technology and into the relation between IOT, robotics and cognitive systems of green, automated and connected driving by keynotes about the PAN-Robots project by Kay Fürstenberg (SICK), AIOTI by Marko Haeckel (Bosch) and Smart Systems for CO2 Reduction by Thomas Gallner (Continental).

Legal aspects of autonomous driving will be covered by Gaelle Kermorgant (ALFRATEC). Latest developments in technology will be covered by a multitude of interesting technical contributions on the topics ADAS and automated driving, C2X and ITS, Green vehicle electronic systems & concepts.

Last not least, a session on global opportunities and European clusters in electric mobility will inform on selected international markets and supply chains and strategies of European clusters.

Third Hellenic Forum for Science, Technology & Innovation

The 3rd Hellenic Forum for Science, Technology & Innovation is taking place in Athens, Greece from Monday 29 June until Friday 3 July 2015 at the Campus of the National Center for Scientific Research "Demokritos". The Forum will cover a broad range of topics including ICT, Nanotechnology, Energy & Environment, Life Sciences and Accelerator Technologies for Society.

Under the Auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this poly-thematic conference aims to act as a meeting point for Science, Technology and Innovation attracting scientists of the Greek Diaspora and world class experts who will discuss global scientific developments.


The Role of the Transatlantic Partnership in the Future of Global Governance

2 July 2015, Brussels

Today the FP7 funded social science research project, TRANSWORLD, is having its final public conferences in Brussels, where experts from both sides of the Atlantic will discuss the future of EU-US cooperation in shaping global governance as well as the BRICS and the challenge of governance.

The open door conference will be followed by closed-door policy briefings by experts from TRANSWORLD at the European Parliament and the European External Action Service on TTIP, Asia, COP21 and EU relations with Russia
