ENSEA Networking Event
25 June 2013, Brussels
To reach the “20-20-20” climate goals, Europe is increasingly generating renewable energy through technologies such as solar panels and wind turbines. Renewable resources are, however, dependent on weather patterns and therefore generate variable amounts of power over time. In order to provide secure energy systems which delivers energy when we need it, renewables have to be used in conjunction with ‘back up’ power sources, which can ramp up generation quickly to meet peak demands, while managing demand by using smart grids and by hydro-based balancing services. Goal of the ENSEA Networking Event is to introduce the project to an European audience, exchange with other Regions of Knowledge (energy) projects and to connect to other European funds.

Workshop - Exploitation and Commercialisation of Research Results of Multinational Consortia
29 April 2013, Brussels
The "Environmental Technologies" Unit in DG Research and Innovation is organising a one day workshop to be held in Brussels on the 29th of April 2013 on issues regarding the commercialisation of products or project results developed by multi-national consortia with the participation of SMEs from different countries.
A more insight view on these issues is of particular importance for consortia running projects within the 7th Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development (FP7). In many cases, in fact, the projects have as a result products/processes to which different partners with different efforts contributed. When the projects end, then some problems can arise regarding IPR and commercialization of their product/services.
The aim of the Workshop is therefore to inform coordinators of FP7 projects on the possibilities for their products/processes of achieving the market, looking at IPR, standards and, more in general, to the exploitation of innovative solutions. Please refer to the agenda for more details.
To attend the meeting please follow the indications for registering, considering that due to capacity of the meeting room a maximum of two participants per project are allowed.
In order to register for the workshop, please fill-in the table with the details of the participants (information required by our security services in order to grant the participants with the access to our premises) and send it back to our functional mailbox: RTD-ENV-WORKSHOP-EXPLOITATION@ec.europa.eu

Course 'Decision Aid Approaches for Risk Management'
22-26 April 2013, Stuttgart, Germany
Decision making is a process where multiple factors interact to shape the final outcome. Those factors can be technical, informational, emotional/psychological, cultural. Nevertheless, the limited rationality of economic operators makes the decision exercise more and more difficult in a more and more complex world. Safety management requires short, mid and long term decisions that may highly influence the ability of the organization to cope with its risks.
At the end of the course, students are expected to have basic knowledge about:
- Main descriptive and prescriptive concepts related to decision making in risk management
- A vision of the key decision making moments of risk management frameworks
- A global vision of the tools available to improve the way managers are dealing with decision making.
The registration is free of charge, anyone interested in the topic are welcome on the course. Please note, however, that the course is intended for 20-25 participants. The registrations will be processed on the first-applied-first-served basis.
