EWENT DISSEMINATION SEMINAR

The EWENT project dealt with extreme Weather impacts on European networks of transport. At this final conference the EWENT researchers and researchers of related projects will present their findings on:
1. What are the extreme weather phenomena that are most harmful to transport system and what and where are the biggest impacts?
2. How these phenomena are going to change in pace with expected climate change?
3. What are the total costs induced to transport system by extreme weather?
4. What European parts – geographically, mode-wise – are most vulnerable to extreme weather?
5. How can we prepare ourselves, what are the means and the tools?

The Indo-European Research and Innovation Partnership

16th International Forum Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications (AMAA 2012) - Smart Systems for Safe, Sustainable, and Networked Vehicles

ICT, components and smart systems have been essential for a multitude of recent innovations in road mobility. They are expected to be key enabling technologies for changes ahead, both inside the vehicle and at its interfaces for the communication of data and energy (i.e. fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and zero accidents).
It has been the objective of the International Forum on Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications (AMAA) for more than fifteen years to detect novel trends and to discuss the technological implications and innovation potential from day one on. In 2012, the topic of the AMAA conference will be “Smart Systems for Safe, Sustainable and Networked Vehicles”.

Czech contribution to sustainable bioeconomy

In February 2012, the European Commission has adopted a new strategy for sustainable bioeconomy in Europe. The conference will provide a view on this strategy from different actors and introduce the potential of the Czech Republic in the area of sustainable bioeconomy.
Conference is organized under the auspices of the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the EU and in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic and with the Technology Centre AS CR.

Week of Innovative Regions in Europe 2012 (WIRE2012)
4-5 June 2012, Krakow, Poland
The conference will focus on smart regional development based on knowledge and innovation. WIRE2012 will address main current issues related to the effective implementation of the Innovation Union at regional level for the next period 2014-2020, through three main thematic pillars:
- Innovative regions in the Horizon 2020 will investigate the role of regions in smart specialisation, the role of cities as innovation hubs, and regional innovation ecosystems within Horizon 2020;
- Stairway to Excellence will focus on the future of research and innovation at the regional level, on synergies between Horizon 2020 and the Cohesion Policy, and on smart specialisation in convergence regions and Centres of Excellence;
- Networking for ERA at Regional Level will discuss the European Territorial Cooperation, networks of clusters, European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation, networks of research infrastructure and Multiregional Knowledge Partnerships (e.g. Danube, Baltic)

SynBIOsis Final Conference - Maximizing Synergies for Central European Biotech Research Infrastructures

Scope of the conference is to present the process outlined during the project execution that has allowed to progressively create a solid cooperation between universities, research driven clusters and businesses in the fields covering the intersections of biotechnology, nanotechnology and ICT. These good practices, already tested in South Moravia and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions and highly replicable in other European backgrounds, could likely contribute in optimizing the utilization of the European Structural Funds earmarked for research and innovation.

Research and Innovation at the Green Week 2012

At the eve of the Rio+20 Conference, the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation is taking stock on the EU efforts on a sustainable use of water and organises the side session: Water resources for sustainable development - an overview of the international dimension of EU research results from Johannesburg to Rio+20.
Over the past ten years, EU research has enabled considerable advances in the water sector in terms of technology development, impact assessments and its governance. The knowledge created so far is an important basis for the future sustainable development agenda. As the Rio+20 conference approaches, this session will present the main outcomes of water-related research funded by EU programmes, highlighting the role of international collaboration and innovative partnerships. The event will offer an opportunity to discuss achievements to date and remaining gaps in water research in the future sustainability agenda.
