Q: NMP 2012. 2.1-3 "Self-healing materials for prolonged lifetime" Could the new material be only a coating material with self healing properties deposited on a substrate to protect for example against corrosion? Or is the Commission expecting a “bulk” material approach?
A: Even if the call text (and the expected impact) does not exclude mere improvements of coatings, the topic 2.1-3 gives emphasis to the development of novel bulk materials with self healing properties. The expression "manufactured" materials is pointing at this. Coating development has been covered extensively in past FP calls and is thus not in the main focus of this topic now.
