Mobility for enhanced co-operation
Financial support is being provided to the organisers
of international research events which take place in Europe to
encourage the mobility of Commission researchers. The aim is to
promote the organisation of conferences and workshops in pre-accession
countries and to encourage contacts for future participation in
joint research projects.

Crystallography is a mix of mathematics,
chemistry, physics, and biological sciences and offers a unique
approach to solving scientific problems. A conference - Crystallography
of Molecular Biology - organised by the E. Majorana Centre of
Erice in Italy, will investigate experimental and computational
techniques currently used to determine the structure of a great
number of macromolecules now available for gene sequencing. The
interdisciplinary meeting will appeal to specialists in pharmaceutical
sciences who are the primary users of structural information.
The EU support will allow young Commission researchers to attend
the meeting and gain basic knowledge which will be useful for
their future activities.
Environment monitoring and recycling
Organised by several Polish ecology institutes,
a meeting dealt with environmental problems and their effects
on human health, with the specific aim of assessing the progress
of recycling industrial wastes, to disseminate knowledge, and
to focus on the difficulties faced by Central European countries
in adopting EU standards.
