Colin Wisely - How do you see research and innovation making a difference for a better future?
I think research and science are actually two-edged swords: sometimes they can improve things and simultaneously, make things worse. For me the future should be about integrating our scientific knowledge with the beginning of an understanding of issues such as compassion. For me, in particular as I'm working in a department of nursing in the UK, these sorts of questions around compassion are becoming much more important. And I think that it is really the future certainly of medical science. So, I think medical science has made huge advances, but one of the areas that medicine hasn't really been able to develop is really the human emotions. So, for me, that's an area that I think is particularly interesting: how can we serve people who are emotional beings ?
