Epigenetics for female personalised cancer care (EpiFemCare)
The EpiFemCare project aims to uncover new methods for screening, diagnosing and personalising treatment of breast and ovarian cancers. The project will use cutting edge technologies from the field of epigenetics to develop blood tests.

Impacts, challenges and limitations of EU-funded public health research - Priorities for future research.
An independent expert group was set up in 2012 to take stock of the impacts, challenges and limitations of EU-funded public health research under the current and previous research framework programmes, and to identify priorities for future research. In addition to drawing lessons learnt from past programmes, the expert group debated the following: what are the thematic priorities for EU funded public health research under Horizon ? how to best structure European Public Health Research in the future? how to develop stronger links and synergies between EU funded research and national research activities and policy agendas ? and how to improve the uptake of evidence generated from public health research in the development of public health policy ?

Call for experts: EDCTP Strategic Advisory Committee and EDCTP Interim Strategic Advisory Committee
EDCTP is calling on high level experts from across multiple fields and sectors to apply for membership of the Interim Strategic Advisory Committee (Interim SAC) and the Strategic Advisory Committee (SAC). SAC members shall serve in their personal capacity, representing a broad range of disciplines encompassing all aspects of clinical trials in poverty related and neglected diseases (PRNDs) in sub-Saharan Africa within the EDCTP mandate. Applications are requested before 26 April 2013 and 30 August 2013 respectively.

Ruxandra Draghia-Akli received on 26 February 2013 the EURORDIS European Rare Disease Leadership Award 2013
EURORDIS, the Voice of Rare Disease Patients in Europe, has awarded the Leadership Award 2013 to Ruxandra Draghia-Akli, Director of the Health Programme. Dr Draghia-Akli is one of the founders and currently Chair of the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC), launched in 2011 with the objective to deliver 200 new therapies for rare diseases and the means to diagnose most of them by 2020.
Dr Draghia-Akli, in receiving this prestigious award, said that the knowledge from IRDiRC will speed up the learning curve for the benefit of patients and their families not only in Europe but hopefully in all parts of the world.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the Crafoord Prize in Polyarthritis 2013 to Peter K. Gregersen, The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, Manhasset, NY, USA, Lars Klareskog, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden and Robert J. Winchester, Columbia University, New York, NY, USA "for their discoveries concerning the role of different genetic factors and their interactions with environmental factors in the pathogenesis, diagnosis and clinical management of rheumatoid arthritis"
