The overall objective of the proposed work is to contribute to an increased knowledge about the effect ofpraziquantel on schistosomiasis related morbidity, the mechanisms behind this effect both regarding theregulation of host immune responses as well as the effect on the parasite with the overall aim of improving thestrategies for morbidity control and it thus address the strategic objective relating to "New knowledge on biology, epidemiology and technologies relevant for sustainable surveillance systems of diseases on a regional scale; oninnovation in and improvement of existing interventions and help to implement appropriate strategies andpolicies for prevention, control and treatment" of vector-borne diseases such as schistosomiasis".In order to reach the overall objective of improving strategies for control we are aiming at the following researchrelated outcomes:
