Ole F. OLESEN

Ole Olesen is senior scientific officer in the Directorate for Health within the European
Commission's (EC) Directorate-General for Research.
In his current position, Ole is
responsible for research in neglected infectious diseases and for horizontal vaccine research
activities.
This includes identification and follow-up on EC research investments in the area,
as well as development of incentives to support public-private partnerships, and the
involvement of pharma and biotech in vaccine research. Ole is a scientist by training with a
PhD in Molecular Biology, and an MBA in International Management.
He was educated at
the Universities of Aarhus, Denmark and Cambridge in the UK, as well as Copenhagen
Business School.
Ole has worked in academia as assistant professor in pharmacology, and
for 10 years in the pharmaceutical industry, where he held positions of increasing
responsibility.
Prior to taking up his current position in 2002, he was global project director in
Ferring Pharmaceuticals A/S (Copenhagen, DK) with specific responsibilities for vaccine
development and peptide-based products.
