Eric Marijn Wielhouwer carried out his doctoral research the fields of drug discovery,
microfluidics, zebrafish embryo development and high throughput and high content screening.

In 2009 Eric filed his first patent application "A Biological Microfluidics Chip and
Related Methods" for their BioWell microtitre plate. The plate, developed by Eric and Michael at
Leiden University, is a novel device for drug screening using zebrafish embryos.
In 2010, together with his Professor Michael Keith Richardson, he founded the Biotech start-up company
Syntecnos. This company is the vehicle for exploiting the patented microfluidic device.
Eric has a Master's degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology; a Bachelor's in Medical Biology
(with specialization in Genetics) and is qualified in lab-assistant education in Biotechnology
(Gene therapy and tissue culture screens). He was born in 1975 and is a Dutch citizen.
