Vice President, Amgen Europe, Board Member of European Biopharmaceutical
Dr Thiel is vice-president, Europe, based in Amgen's Zug Headquarters, Switzerland.
Thiel joined Amgen in 2002 as oncology franchise head, Europe, based in Switzerland, later
moving to Austria as general manager for Central and Eastern Europe.
In 2007, Thiel was
appointed general manager in Germany, one of Amgen's largest affiliates.
During his tenure as GM in Germany, Thiel was member of the Board of Directors of VfA Bio,
the German association of Biotechnology Companies within VfA and the Industry Association
of Research based Pharmaceutical Companies.
Prior to Amgen, Thiel was international marketing director with Eurofins Scientific B.V. in
Thiel began his career at F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG, where he held increasingly
senior sales, marketing and general management roles.
Thiel gained a Master in Chemistry at the University of Marburg in Germany and completed a
PhD in Molecular Biology at the Max-Planck-Institut, Göttingen in Germany.
Thiel is Board member of EBE, Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce, International
School of Zug & Lucerne and the Deutsche Museum Kuratorium.
