- The Role of the Risk Sharing Finance Facility (RSFF) in Financing RDI Investments and Case Study of Philips Open Innovation Financing (Not available).
The contribution highlights the importance that the EIB attaches to supporting Open Innovation concepts. Through its dedicated Risk Sharing Finance Facility (RSFF) that is jointly funded by FP 7 and EIB the Bank is able to finance leading-edge R&D and innovation by both private and public-sector promoters. As the debt-financing of especially smaller companies in less mature fields of technologies remains difficult, the support of key members in open innovation clusters has turned out to be an attractive and viable alternative. As demonstrated by the example of EIB's financing of Philips' activities in medical technology, smaller corporates as partners in open innovation networks are able to benefit indirectly from RSFF financing.
