Medical diagnosis is the essential pre-requisite for the appropriate management and treatment of diseases and disorders, and hence for current and future patient healthcare. Developing new and better detection and diagnostic methods is important for prediction, early detection and early diagnosis (which often allow better treatment), and for disease prognosis, monitoring of their progression, and guiding and evaluating therapy. Diagnostic techniques should ideally be non-invasive.
Moreover, such methods are important for biomedical research, to understand biological, physiological and disease processes. Determining the identity, nature and causes of disease is also essential to develop new treatments.
