- In charge of various missions for the Corporate Secretariat (1973)
- Managing Director of the subsidiaries "Sociedad General de Hules" at Gava and "Gorvi" at Pamplona  (Spain) (1977-78)
- Business Manager for Industrial Sheets at the Central Management Processing in Brussels (1979)
- General Manager of the Processing Sector (1982)

- Appointed a Director and Member of the Executif Committee of Solvay on May 31, 1990
- Appointed Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee of Solvay on April 14, 1994
- Appointed Chairman of the Executive Committee of Solvay on June 4, 1998.

Michielsen is a Member - or the Chairman - of the Board of numerous Companies within and also outside of the Solvay Group :
- Member of the Aufsichtsrat of Wienerberger Baustoffindustrie AG
- Member of the Board of Directors of CEFIC since 1998
- Member of the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI) since 1998. 

He was made "Chevalier de l'Ordre de Léopold" (Belgium) in 1988
