Graphic element Quality enhancement and process optimisation in LLDPE stretch film production

Complete revision of stretch film production for packaging was carried out, focusing on automation and control.

Talk about modern product packaging and you are talking about stretch films. Brite Euram partner Manuli is far the European leader in the production of Low Linear Density PolyEthylene (LLDPE) stretch films, still a rapidly growing industry.

This project completely revised the stretch film production process, focusing on automation and control. The improvements resulted in a 50% reduction in production lead time, a 45% reduction in required machining hours, a reduction in the number of required specialised personnel and an overall reduction of 10% in labour costs. Other improvements included increased productivity, improved and more consistent quality, a more reliable production schedule, early warning and easy diagnosis of problems and a reduction of waste in the form of rejected product.

All of the four main partners contributed significantly and their efforts are now continuing, thanks in part to new Italian laws favouring industrial R&D as a continuous structured process rather than a series of spot events.
