New concrete mixing technologies, software and prediction models for concrete deterioration mechanisms help in selecting the best concrete mixture for a given project.
 

High Performance Concrete (HPC) is the latest development in concrete technology. Featuring increased strength and workability, HPC is rapidly replacing the High-Strength Concrete (HSC) developed in the early 1980's in applications like high-rise buildings, bridges, and structures under severe exposure conditions. At the same time, the need for modelling strategies for structural and durability analyses has never been more relevant.

This project was focused on developing a comprehensive modelling system for tailoring concrete to specific performance requirements. It led to improvements in concrete mixing technologies, new software for selecting the best concrete mixture for a given project, and prediction models for concrete deterioration mechanisms.

The project has allowed prime partner Bouygues the opportunity to invest in a concrete mixing pilot plant, and to establish a dedicated unit which is now continuing to work on the optimization of concrete formulations. The company is now successfully exploiting its new modelling system, both locally in Europe and abroad.
