A new high-strength biodegradable concrete repair system eliminates exposure to hazardous solvents and improves corrosion protection.
 
Many concrete repair systems, i.e. for sewer pipelines, expose workers to solvent-based resin material in the pre-set stage. This project has developed a new high-strength system (DUREP) that relies on fully mineral, cement-based material and completely eliminates this hazard from the working environment. In addition, the material offers improved corrosion protection and is suitable for both pumping and spraying. It is fully biodegradable.

The partners have already seen economic gains as a result of using these materials. But the long-term stability and reliability of the system has to be proved first on small sewer rehabilitation projects. Once this has been achieved, significant growth in the use of DUREP is expected.

DUREP could also feasibly be used as a protective coating for outside concrete structures, especially those exposed to chlorides such as seawater.
