Q: With reference to the Science in Society 2012-1 call - topic “Tools and instruments for a better societal engagement in Horizon 2020”: Could you please explain the meaning of the terms “tools/instruments”, used in the call text and give more information about the focus on the six societal challenges in Horizon 2020?
A: Unfortunately we cannot provide further background material related to the call, which is meant to be a stand-alone text, open to interpretation. This call relates to the investigation/assessment of existing and the exploration/development of new tools/methods/approaches to foster "public engagement" (the widest definition thereof: ie: sustainable multi-actor dialogue fostering co-creation and collective intelligence) in the 6 societal challenges of H2020, which may require different approaches depending on their constituencies, degree of maturity, phase of policy cycle, degree of social acceptability, etc. Some on-going work related to public engagement in research can be found in the series of MML (Mobilisation and Mutual Learning) projects we are supporting.
