Q: What is the Research Executive Agency?
A: The Research Executive Agency, or REA, is carrying out project management tasks for parts of the "Seventh Framework Programme for Research, Technological Development and Demonstration Activities" (FP7). Specifically, it is carrying out the evaluation and management of projects that involve large numbers of relatively small budgets. These are the Marie-Curie fellowships from the "People" programme and the SME-targeted projects from the "Capacities" programme. In addition, the REA manages projects from two themes of the "Cooperation" programme. These themes are "Space" and "Security". The rest of FP7 is managed by the Research Directorates-General of the European Commission to which the REA provides support services for the reception, management and evaluation of proposals, with the exception of the "Ideas" programme, which is managed entirely by the European Research Council Executive Agency.
