Q: Is there any codified rule concerning the use of the English for the EC documents, websites or other? Should we mandatory use "British English" or can we use both (British as well as American English) according to the partner's (not having English as mother language) expertise? May I use your answer as a "reference document"?
A: Any variants of English are allowed as long as the person on the other side, Commission or expert, can understand the concepts / ideas / deliverables / strategy etc. The purpose is to be understood at evaluation stage and to give enough information for the negotiation and contracting stage. The disclaimer applies as the answer given cannot be legally binding - it is more common sense than law or case law.
