Q: Cordis: Why is it needed to register? And why to fill 'mandatory' fields to submit queries? (I.e.: gender)
A: It is not necessary to register to search CORDIS using the simple, map-based, or conceptual search tools and/or the alphabetical and thematic indexes - only the 'advanced' and 'professional' search levels require registration. This registration is necessary because these two levels of search offer the user the option to activate an e-mail alert facility concerning new/modified information (for this we need the e-mail address). The mandatory registration fields exist because the official CORDIS management team (European Commission) felt that this information would be useful for the good management of the service.
