Q: My question is related to the size of the consortium in a large collaborative project (NMP Theme). In the guide for applicants there is information concerning the minimum number of partners the maximum is never mentioned. Is there any maximum or even optimal number of partners for a large collaborative project?
A: You are right that a minimum participation requirement is mentioned (at least three legal entities established in three Member States or Associated countries) but there is no specified maximum. This is because the maximum may vary according to the critical mass needed for any particular topic. In some IPs in FP6 there were 20 partners and more but the important point is that that the number of partners corresponds well to the topic and the objectives of the project.
