Q: What are the conditions to become coordinator in a FP7 project?
A: The FP7 Rules for Participation do not provide for a list of requirements that have to be fulfilled in order that a potential participant can act as a consortium coordinator. In FP7 projects the coordinator is an entity which is responsible for carrying out the tasks set out in Annex II, Article II.2 of the General Conditions of the model grant agreement. The (potential) coordinator must have the capacity to carry out these tasks and in view of the importance of these tasks, the choice of coordinator by the consortium always has to be approved by the Commission. This means that the Commission examines the financial viability of the partner intending to become coordinator, as well as its capacity to carry out the intended tasks.
