The Commission is marking European Science Week with a series of events in Brussels, from 3 to 15 November 2003.  These focus on Marie Curie’s significance to society today and on the European actions bearing her name that promote the mobility and career development of scientific researchers.

The European Commission has joined forces with the Brussels Capital Region, the Brussels-Europe Liaison Office, the Univeristé Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), and the Polish Mission to the European Union to organise:

• A public exhibition on Marie Curie, her inspirational life, and what we can learn from her today. It will also showcase the EU actions bearing her name that promote the mobility and career development of scientific researchers
  
  
• The award ceremony for the EU’s first Marie Curie Prizes, launched to reward European scientific excellence
  
  
• A range of awareness-raising activities (lectures, debates, seminars and presentations) aimed at improving the professional image of scientific researchers in Europe
