Introduction
Main objectives
The European Commission is
determined to forge a better relationship between
the world of science and the lives of European
citizens. A range of policy and other initiatives
are planned or have already been launched under
the banner ‘Science and Society’.
These include support through a dedicated chapter
in the Sixth Framework Programme.
Three main activity areas
- Bringing research
closer to society, dealing with science
and governance, scientific advice and reference
systems
- Responsible research
and application of science and technology,
dealing with ethics, uncertainty, risk, and
the precautionary principle
- Stepping up
the dialogue on science and society,
dealing with public understanding, young people’s
interest in scientific careers, and women
and science.
