In May 2012 ERAB published its third and final report "The new Renaissance: will it happen? Innovating out of the crisis". The report summarizes the outcome of the ERAB Brainstorming session, Innovating out of the crisis, in the Innovation Union Convention 6.12.2011. ERAB has produced several position papers with recommendations. This report also compiles the recommendations submitted to the Commission in the last 16 months.
- Studies the Commission has commissioned to support the work of ERAB (2010 – 2012)
The European Commission has commissioned a number of studies to support the ERAB in performing its advisory task. The studies have been used as an input to deliberations on the topics in question, in preparation of the Board's eventual advice to the Commission.

On 7th March ERAB submitted its advice on research and innovation policy for Grand Challenges to the Commission.

On 20 May 2011 ERAB submitted its advice on Commissions Green Paper
on Common Strategic Framework for EU Research and Innovation Funding.
The Consolidated Advice of the European Research Area Board
(February 2008 - May 2011).
The European Research Area Board (ERAB) has decided to consolidate most of its advice given to the European Commission over its lifetime in order to ensure that the logic and background to its current advice on the Common Strategic Framework (CSF) is seen in context.

- ERAB second annual report: "Realising the New Renaissance" (

On 20 October 2010 ERAB presented its second report 'Realising the New Renaissance' under the Belgian Presidency. Around 60 participants came together to discuss the ERAB proposals to push forward the realisation of the European Research Area. The report shows that the ambition outlined by ERAB in its first report of realising a "New Renaissance" in Europe can be translated into concrete actions. As recognised by European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, the recommendations contained in the report can be used to support the Innovation Union Flagship
initiative recently proposed by the European Commission. Presentations and speeches given during the event are listed:

Speaking at the ERAB conference in Seville on 6-7 May 2010, the Commissioner Máire Geoghegan-Quinn challenged ERAB members
and participants to provide her with 10 concrete and urgent actions focused on how to optimise Europe's research, innovation and science base with the aim to address society's Grand Challenges and prepare Europe's post-crisis smart, green economy and society.
The ERAB welcomed the challenge and based on the overall feedback from the Conference delegates the ERAB suggested the Commissioner the following 10 key recommendations

On 6 October 2009, ERAB presented its first annual report "Preparing Europe for a New Renaissance - A Strategic View of the European Research Area". As a vision paper it paints a picture, in broad strokes, of where the European Research Area needs to go by 2030 - for the sake of the EU, and of the world at large.
