The European Commission established in 2007 the European Research Area Board (ERAB) as a new consultative body responsible for advising the EU on the realisation of the European Research Area. The Commission also has recourse to other high level expert advice on a more punctual basis.
EURAB was established in 2001 to advise the Commission on the implementation of the European Research Area, the smooth running of the 6th Framework Programme and the preparation and launch of the 7th Framework Programme. On 6 October 2009, ERAB presented its first annual report Preparing Europe for a New Renaissance - A Strategic View of the European Research Area.
