Sylvia SCHWAAG SERGER
Executive Director International Strategy and Networks at the Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems (VINNOVA) and Senior Research Fellow, Research Policy Institute, University of Lund.
From 2005-2007, Ms. Schwaag Serger was Swedish Science Counselor in Beijing. She has published several papers China’s economic and scientific development and has advised Swedish ministries and agencies on China-related issues. She has also been commissioned by the European Commission and the OECD as China expert in a number of projects.
During 2004, Ms. Schwaag Serger was Acting Director at IKED, an independent international non-profit organization focusing on the emerging issues of the knowledge-based economy. From 1999-2002, she was senior researcher at the Swedish Institute for Food and Agricultural Economics (SLI), analyzing decision-making in the European Union. Prior to that, she worked at the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Stockholm on innovation policy.
Since 2010, Ms. Schwaag Serger is Member of the Board of the Expert Group for Public Economics (ESO) under the Swedish Ministry of Finance.
From 2008-2011 Ms. Schwaag Serger chaired the Task Force on internationalization of innovation for the European Association of Innovation Agencies (TAFTIE). She is currently also chairing an ERA expert group on international science, technology and innovation cooperation.
Ms. Schwaag Serger holds a Ph.D. in economic history from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a Masters Degree in International Relations from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies of the Johns Hopkins University (SAIS).
