COP-17 Side Event Africa-EU scientific & technological cooperation in the field of climate change

28 November 2011, Durban

This side event at this year's Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will showcase examples of successful EU-Africa scientific cooperation in the field of climate change. Held at the EU Pavilion, it will focus on best practices, challenges and opportunities for development of capacities for climate change research in Africa. EU-funded research projects contribute to the side event and other presentations held at the EU Pavilion, such as:

Mon 28/11 16.00-17.00hrs: "The HEALTHY FUTURES project: Understanding Climate change impacts on Health and adaptive capacity in Africa". Main speaker: Prof. David Taylor, Trinity College, University of Dublin

Tue 29/11, 14.00-15.00hrs: "AfriCAN Climate - The Web Platform for Uptake of Climate Related Research Results of African Relevance". Main speaker: Dr. Martha Bissmann from WIP Renewable Energies

Fri 02/12, 15.00-16.00hrs: Preliminary results of "CLICO - Climate Change, Hydro-conflicts and Human Security". Main speaker: Dr. Christiane Gerstetter from the Ecologic Institute

Wed 07/12 15.00-16.00hrs: "The CLIMB project: Climate induced changes on the hydrology of Mediterranean basins: Reducing uncertainty and quantifying risk through an integrated monitoring and modelling system". Main speaker: Dr. Chairat Benabdallah, Centre de Recherches et des Technologies des Eaux
