Electronic conference on Biodiversity
4 May 1998 - 14 June 1998

RESEARCH AND BIODIVERSITY

In the framework of the European Commisson "Environment and Climate" research programme, an ad hoc European Working Group on Research and Biodiversity (EWGRB) has been established. The main mandate of this EWGRB is to produce a common research agenda, discussed and accepted by several concerned actors as researchers, decison makers, international bodies, NGOs, private sectors etc.

To fulfil this task it was decided to use a questionnaire in order to identify a number of research areas. With the help of the replies to the questionnaire a document has been drafted. In a meeting in Stockholm from 9 - 13 April 1997, this document was finalised. Moreover, through a specific brainstorming session the above mentioned actors discussed on a common framework about research and biodiversity.

We would very grateful if you could give your attention to the pages on the EWGRB website and if you could use a small part of your time to comment on the document "UNDERSTANDING BIODIVERSITY".
Comments, suggestions and criticisms on this report are more than welcomed. You will see, of course, up dated information on the futures steps regarding the elaboration of an intersectorial research agenda. Send your name and address by fax or E-mail if you wish to receive a copy of the final document once edited.

An Electronic Conference on Research and Biodiversity is programmed to provide the framework for the expression by both researchers and representatives of the sectors related to Biodiversity of the innovative views on a wide range of biodiversity issues.

The EWGRB homepage will give updated information on how the work proceed through this URL or directly at the URL: http://www.oden.se/~ewgrb

Please send your comments by fax or normal mail to the address below or, IF YOU HAVE A FULL INTERNET CONNECTION, DIRECTLY ON THE "DISCUSSION FORUM" AVAILABLE ON THE WEB.

Thanking you in advance for your kind collaboration, we send our best regards.

Yours sincerely,
