European Photovoltaic Technology Platform : Implementation Report [4,5 MB]

The Implementation Report was drafted by the European Photovoltaic Technology Platform (EU PV TP). It complements its Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) by quantifying the R&D needs, by recommending adequate instruments for R&D funding, by describing interactions with other technology sectors that may help to accelerate innovations in the PV sector and by making recommendations for attracting people to work in the industry. The EU PV TP is an initiative supported by FP6 which aims at mobilising all the actors sharing a long-term European vision for photovoltaic; realising the European Strategic Research Agenda for PV for the next decade(s) and give recommendations for implementation; ensuring that Europe maintains industrial leadership.

Monitoring progress towards Gender Equality in the Sixth Framework Programme [5 MB]

A study "Monitoring gender equality in the 6th Framework Programme ", coordinated by the Science and Society Directorate, has just been completed. The study covers all RTDareas including Sustainable Energy Systems (Sub-priority 6.1) and looks at the performance of European funded research from the twofold perspective of women participation in research (research by women) and the integration of gender relevant issues in research content (research for women). Here you can find the executive summary for energy. The report shows that although this is a male dominated field, the concern on the environmental, economic and social impacts of energy offer many opportunities to integrate gender issues in research content, clearly enhancing scientific excellence.

EU funded Research and Technology Development (RTD) is moving from supporting a wide range of projects with very specific technology objectives to structuring the European Research Area. Despite of this change in focus, maximising the return to the European economy and society – by ensuring that research results are eventually taken up by the market – remains a priority.

This is all the more valid for energy research as the important challenges, with respect to security of supply, reduction of green house gases and competitiveness are to be met urgently.

The study identifies documents and compares best practices and existing tools and mechanisms in the domain of support to innovation and technology transfer developed by the EU and Members States with respect to energy technologies.

The 2007 European Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Review Days were held on 10-11 October in Brussels. The event was organised by the European Commission with the logistic support from the European Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Platform Secretariat. The main objectives were to promote information exchange, review the achievements of the project portfolio and provide orientations for future actions.

This brochure is the final publishable report of the project SOLGATE funded under the fifth RTD Framework programme (1999-2002). The project demonstrated the technical feasibility of a new solar-hybrid power system. Solar radiation is used to heat air up to 800°C that is send to the combustion chamber of a gas turbine.
