Abstract: NANOSTIR represents a completely new and highly innovative, alternative polygeneration energy system. It does combine a solid biofuel boiler, a small power range Stirling engine and an absorption cooling machine to a concise and highly potential energy provision system. NANOSTIR significantly reduces former problems of Stirling engines with soiling and slagging of the primary heat exchanger by using solid biofuels by means of the applied nanotechnological coating material.

Abstract: The project is aimed at demonstrating the market potential of a new microCHP system in real domestic-size polygeneration applications. The Exheat microCHP system is based on the close integration of a boiler with an externally heated microturbine. The system delivers approximately 5 kW of electrical power and 15kW heating.

Abstract: Powerline communications has a large potential to enable new, intelligent applications to and from the last branch of the distribution grid. However, current powerline communication technologies cannot offer the reliability, quality and interoperability that is required for such applications. DLC+VIT4IP will develop, verify and test a high-speed narrow-band powerline communications infrastructure using the Internet Protocol (IP) to respond current and future needs.

Abstract: This project aims to design and realize innovative and scalable components for solar concentrating systems that generate both electricity and heat and work efficiently at high temperatures (800-1000°C). The proposed concept includes the design, realization and testing of several new component technologies. A small-scale prototype solar system will be realized to test and evaluate the real impact of the new components.

Abstract: The project aims at developing a unique device for electricity networks: A superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) based on a coated conductor.
