Abstract: NANOSTIR represents a completely new and highly innovative, alternative polygeneration energy system. It does combine a solid biofuel boiler, a small power range Stirling engine and an absorption cooling machine to a concise and highly potential energy provision system. NANOSTIR significantly reduces former problems of Stirling engines with soiling and slagging of the primary heat exchanger by using solid biofuels by means of the applied nanotechnological coating material.

Abstract: Improving the cost-competitiveness and approaching grid-parity are the major challenges for micromorph thin-film photovoltaics. The project bridges the gap between research and industrial application.

The end result will be a step-change in the properties of the materials, as is required to underpin the future of European fuel cell research.

Abstract: The project shall demonstrate the feasibility of the most critical process steps like continuous layer detachment, bonding to a carrier substrate, high-quality epitaxy, handling-free solar cell processing and module integration. As a deliverable, a mini module of higher than 18% efficiency shall be prepared.The current technologies to produce photovoltaic modules exhibit features, which prevent cost-reduction to below 0,5/Wp. Future enhanced R2M-Si modules can exceed even 20% efficiency, at costs below 0.5 /Wp.

Abstract: The project is focusing on the salinity gradient power-reverse electrodialysis (SGP-RE) process. It has been shown in scientific papers that the performance of the process can be increased by an order of magnitude when brine and sea or brackish water are used for the creation of the salinity gradient rather than the current approach of seawater with fresh water. The overall potential is very high and the REAPower project aims to enable the SGP-RE technology to play an important role in the energy mix of the next decades.

Abstract: Since the silicon wafer still accounts for a substantial part of the cost of solar modules, reducing the silicon consumption per watt peak is one of the most effective ways of reducing the overall cost of PV systems. In this project we propose a methodology to produce a high-efficiency solar module with a very limited amount of silicon. The methodology is based on two technologies: the first one for the fabrication of the solar wafers, the second one for the processing of this new material.

Abstract: Economic and sustainable production of fuels, chemicals and materials from biomass requires capturing the maximum energy and monetary value from sustainable feedstock. SUPRA-BIO achieves this by focussing on innovative research and development of critical unit operations, by using process intensification to match economic production to the scale of available feedstock and by process integration that provides energy from process waste, optimises utilities to minimise environmental impact and maximises value from the product mix.
